Before the first brushstroke
Nearly ten successive layers were needed before achieving the final result.
It all begins with meticulous preparation of the wall: sanding, application of a specific filler to smooth the surface, then further hand sanding. Next come three coats of gesso, followed by various products designed to promote paint adhesion, durability, and consolidation.
Once the fresco was completed, an additional year was devoted to its complete restoration, thanks to a glazing process that refined the colours, nuances and depth of the rendering.
Finally, a protective varnish is applied to preserve the whole, complemented by a glossy varnish on the marble effects.
